Thermal Flights (incl. Convergence)

  • Potential flight distance and task area
  • Start and end of thermals (heights + strengths)
  • Cu Cloudbase
  • Boundary layer cloud cover
  • Wind (direction, strength, gradient)
  • Convergences
  • Check for Potential Issues
    • High/mid level cloud
    • Overdevelopment
    • CAPE (severe thunderstorm risk)
    • Rain
  • Validate understanding with Skew-T

Dynamic Flights (Ridge and Wave Flights)

  • Wind (direction, strength, gradient)
  • Stable layer
  • Temperature (on the ground and at altitude)
  • Cloud cover (low/mid/high) – where to expect rotor clouds, lenticular clouds
  • Wind on the ground at launch and expected landing time
  • Validate understanding with Skew-T
